Assurance and Overcoming

Scripture Lesson:

  • 1 John 3:19-4:6

1 John 3:19 tells us the truth assures our hearts before Him. What are some things you do when your conscience is uneasy about decisions?
How does right belief enable us to have a clear conscience?

Why are believers sometimes troubled with false condemnation? According to verse 20, how does the fact that God knows everything reassure our conscience?

From verses 21-23, how is our confidence in prayer developed?

According to verses 4:1-2, how do we recognize true prophets, as opposed to false prophets? John wrote in his time that there were many false prophets in the world. How is this still true today? Think about some worldly viewpoints you encounter. As a believer, how do you recognize and combat these teachings?

How are John’s “dear children” of the first century and “dear believers” of today different from the world. ( See 1 John 4:4-6.)

How does your life reflect that your values are different from worldly values?
